Some time ago the Prescott Courier ran an ad for a lost dog by the name of EJ. The ad caught my eye because EJ looked a lot like one of my dogs. I cut out the ad and carried it with me in case I would be the one to spot him. I didn't, and the ad ran many more times, and I kept thinking about EJ.
I remembered the time my dog had hopped the fence shortly after I got her from the Humane Society, before she knew where her new home was. I was frantic. Luckily it turned out that she stayed with the neighbors kids.
I had called Animal Control, the Humane Society, and the Sheriff. As helpful as everybody tried to be, they couldn't even tell me if the dog was in the system yet.
Communications between the agencies, paper work, it all takes time. It takes days until an ad gets into the newspaper. Meanwhile the pet could wander farther and farther from home, lost and confused.
When the Courier featured the happy ending of EJ's 14 month ordeal I realized, what was needed was a faster way to let the community know that a pet has been lost. In the age of instant everything, surely this could be accomplished. And so the ideas for PrescottAreaLostPets.com was born.
For this site to accomplish its mission, people need to be aware of its existence. Please help spread the word! One day it could help you locate your lost pet!
